Fair of the Dead in Perugia
In the first days of November the traditional Fair of the Dead takes place in the old town of Perugia.
Its origins date back to the middle Ages where it was called “Fair of All Saints”, since even today the market falls in the period between the 1st and the 5th November. In 1600 it turned its name into “Fair of deceased” and in the nineteenth century it changed its name that is still used today (“fair of the Dead”).
Over 500 stands for household items, clothing, traditional gastronomic and artisan products will be placed in the large area of Piazzale Umbria Jazz in Pian di Massiano, while a small number of exhibitors will be in the most popular places of the old town.
The natives of Perugia see The Fair of the Dead as a strong link to the past and its traditions.
